Description

This antique Thonet-style side table is a rare and highly collectible example of the transition from late Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) to early modern functionalism. It showcases the revolutionary steam-bending technique that made the Thonet brothers icons of furniture design.

Unlike the later, more minimalist models of the 1920s, this early 1900s still carries the ornamental structuralism of the Vienna Secession. It was designed to be lightweight enough to be moved easily around a Viennese café or a high-society parlor.

The visible hardware and the specific way the bentwood loops are screwed into the vertical legs are hallmark indicators of early 20th-century (Thonet) production methods.

Height – 71,50 cm, Width – 47 cm, Depth – 37 cm.
